American Counselors Association Conference

We presented at the American Counseling Association's International Conference in Honolulu, HI. It was remarkable to experience the reaction from our professional counselors about our treatment of Vicarious Trauma: "Finally!"; "It's about time!"; "We need this so badly at our agency...will you come help us?". We are more determined than ever to align with our colleagues in the fight against VT. Professional helpers poured their hearts out as they used the Rapid Advance for themselves. Some were crying, many breathed sighs of relief...more to come on this incredible experience.

The Vicarious Trauma Institute

The Vicarious Trauma Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona is collecting traumatizing experiences from helpers. Please help us build a healthier environment for those who give of themselves to others. Your stories will serve as data so that we can continue to address the cost of caring.

Empathy Can Empty You

Empathy is a vigorous neurological activity. When a caring person is listening to a shocking, sad or gruesome story it may look like they are calmly sitting and listening: but the activity going on inside the listener's brain and body looks anything but calm.

How do you experience the strain of listening? Please share your stories with us.

Welcome To Our Blog

We want to talk to people who care for others. You are so caring for others. Who is caring for you? Please post your stories and questions so that we can help people to feel encouraged and to come forward in a safe, nurturing environment with their stories.

We, too, as helping professionals have suffered from the effects of Second-Hand Shock. We are not ashamed to share our stories with you and we hope you will share your stories with us.
